Philip Stromstad Obituary

Philip Daniel Stromstad December 29, 1971 to March 31, 2011 Our beloved son, brother, grandson and nephew is now free of physical pain and the pains of the world. He as a committed Christian is now in the presence of God rejoicing with peace in his heart. This morning while preparing for the day ahead he literally dropped dead. Philip had been in poor health for some time suffering from blood clots, with many trips to the hospital for extended stays. He was looking forward to a new career as a nurse anesthetist. Philip was a kind and compassionate man with the utter need to help others. His intelligence helped him to know when and how to be of benefit. Philip worked as a commercial fisherman most of his adult life in the Bering Sea as the engineer on the Sea Venture. That came to a halt over a year ago when he discovered that he was diabetic and had blood clots. After a long road to recovery he began school just last Monday with excitement. Philip was very bright both in mind and spirit. He instantly made friends wherever he went. His "Granny" Opal recently moved here and they enjoyed each other's company every day. He saw her at Merrill Gardens twice a day for bingo and other times of joy. We will all miss Philip's charming personality and wit. Philip is survived by his parents Gail and Dan Stromstad, Brother Adam and wife Irene from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Grandmother Opal Knudson, and Uncle Mitch Knudson and wife Janice from Lake Balboa, CA. A memorial service will be Thursday April 7, 2011 at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church10 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a memorial fund at Columbia Bank in Philip's name.

I was friends with Phil in High School. I always found Phil to be a great friend. He was incredibly funny and full of life. He was great rebel, skater and punk rock brother to all of us. I wish I could have reconnected with him later in life. He will continue to live on in my world. Go Phil, you rule.

The world is missing a beautiful soul and person. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I feel great loss of such a good friend. This is Debbie Beamish I was best friends with Phil and Bill Torres in the late 80's (end of high school) and early 90's. It was Phil, and Bill, and I together. I'll write more later. My heart misses him and I weep from our loss of Phil. I will add pics later. I prey for strength for your family. I love you Phil.
