Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

I had the honor of teaching at Marcus Whitman Junior High School with Ray Snow. Someone once said that what ever the subject matter is, a teacher teaches what he or she is as a human being. Ray Snow was bright, energetic, disciplined, and a moral icon. His subject matter as a teacher was science but his focus was on his students. He engaged them in learning not only the principles of science but in their individual relationship to all mankind that the purpose of knowledge was the betterment of the world. He was a man of faith who did not wear his religion on his sleeve but he practiced it quietly and sincerely. I learned much more by watching Ray Snow than I did from many texts on teaching. My condolences to his family and he and they will be remembered in our prayers.
