Richard Kiffer Obituary

Richard Glade Kiffer Rich was born to Iva Jean and Glade Kiffer July 29, 1933, in Dryad, WA. He left us August 2, 2011, at the age of 78. Growing up in Centralia, WA, he loved to fish the rivers and streams of southwest Washington. After graduating from Centralia High School in 1951, he served two years in the Army in Germany before graduating from the University of Washington in 1959. He went to work for Weyerhaeuser in Snoqualmie Falls, WA, as a comptroller. He also worked in Springfield, OR, before settling in Tacoma in 1969. He retired in 1999 after 41 years. He enjoyed taking Carolyn with him when traveling to the East Coast to show her the sights and loved to take road trips at the spur of the moment. His greatest pride and enjoyment was his grandchildren. He loved watching them at their various sporting events. Rich was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nola Markhart. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Carolyn; his children Val (Marcia), Jay, and Tim (Patty) Kiffer, Scott (Linda) and Jeffrey (Melanie) Johnson, and Kelly (Mark) Budnick; his grandchildren Joshua (Liz), Taylor, Maggie, Zachary, Kaylee, Jacob, Richard, Connor, Annika, Gabriella and Jack; great-granddaughters Hailie, Taylor and Sadie; sister Vera Grunenfelder of Centralia; mother-in-law Mandy Baldwin, and numerous extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the New Tacoma Cemetery chapel.
