Robert Allen Baldassin Bob passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 19, 2013 at his family's home in Lakewood. Bob was born in Tacoma on October 2, 1930 to Liberale and Mary Baldassin. He attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanie Hager, on June 16, 1950, making their home in Tacoma where they raised two children. Bob was a devoted husband and father, oftentimes working several jobs in their early years, and served in the Washington State National Guard. He became a Tacoma Police Officer in 1954 and was a dedicated professional for 26 ½ years, working various assignments. He was a member of the first recruit academy that the city offered and was one of seventeen recruits known as the "newbreed". He was a patrolman, then proud to be selected as a robbery/homicide detective before earning the rank of lieutenant. Upon following his retirement, he worked as an assistant Sergeant-at-Arms at the Washington State Senate Capital building in Olympia. Bob was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He made sure he was at every family event his family was involved in. He had a great sense of humor, and believed family was the most important thing. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling the west coast with Jeanie in their travel trailer. One of their favorite pastime activities was going to the ocean and staying at their beach place. Bob enjoyed fishing, but his greatest hobby was spending time with his family. Later in life, Bob enjoyed attending the "Old Jocks" luncheon and seeing his longtime friends. Bob and Jeanie were an inseparable couple whose relationship was strengthened by a love that never stopped growing throughout their 63 years of marriage. They were deeply committed to their vows and each other. They journeyed through life together, leaving a legacy of integrity, sacrifice, and commitment. Bob joined his loving wife, Jeanie, who passed away July 27th, and will be missed by daughter Sue (Chuck) Johnston, son Mike (Mary) Baldassin, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by siblings Virginia Kenfield, Lucille Goodwin, James Baldassin, Albert Baldassin, Lee Baldassin, Walter (Bill) Baldassin, and Catherine Lind, and infant great-grandson, Jackson, whom the family takes comfort in knowing that he is now holding him in heaven. Bob had a very large extended family of nieces and nephews that he is extremely grateful for. The family is thankful for Dr. Senecal and his staff, Monica and Leah from Allenmore Coumadin Clinic, and Bennie and Linda from Franciscan Hospice. A memorial service to honor Bob will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he is a member, located at 1315 N Stevens St., Tacoma WA, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, with a reception to follow at Sand Memorial Center. Arrangements by New Tacoma Cemetery. Please sign guestbook at www.newtacoma.com. Memorial donation may be made to National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or Franciscan Hospice.
