RUBY IRONS

Ruby Lee Irons Of Lakewood, WA, was called home to be with our heavenly father on Nov. 13, 2010 at the age of 86. She was born in Gurdon, Arkansas on July 11, 1924. She is preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, her husband Buford (Uncle Buddy), daughter Linda Greene and grandson, Anthony Davis. She was a teacher in the Tacoma School District for over 20 years, and a licensed counselor. She earned her Bachelor's of Education from CWU and her Masters in Special Ed from PLU. After retiring she owned and operated Ruby's Precious Gems daycare for over 15 years. At the age of 85 she voluntarily tutored at Lake Louise Elementary. Ruby was a member of St John Baptist Church with over 50 years of faithful service to many auxiliaries some of which included being a Church Mother, Teacher, Choir Director, and Minister of Music. She was truly devoted to Motherhood, Christian Leadership, Christian Training, Crusaders for Christ and the Music Ministry. In 2010 she was lead to begin serving the Lord at New Salem Baptist Church. During her life she was always passionate about children and her community involvement, which included feeding and clothing the homeless, counseling at women's shelters, organizing drives for children's toys and clothing, and countless other humanitarian efforts. As a result she was a recipient of numerous awards. Ruby was a licensed foster parent for the State of Washington and the Casey Family Program where she opened her heart and her home to well over 100 foster children. Many thanks to our family, numerous friends, acquaintances and Franciscan Hospice for their tireless support. Celebration services will be held at 10 am November 30th, at St John Baptist Church, 2001 So J St. in Tacoma, WA. Viewing on November 29th at St John from 2pm-5pm and wake service 5pm-8pm.
