TERRY DACCA Obituary

Terry Dacca Our loving mother, spouse, friend and co-worker, passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2011 surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Frank, of Gig Harbor, and their two sons, Ryan and Joe, of Seattle. She is also survived by her sister, Laurie Mosher (Seamus) of Gig Harbor, and her brother, Mike Mosher (Celia, Sean, Troy and Shannon) of Fullerton, CA. Born Terese Lynn Mosher on July 26, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the first child of Richard and Marjorie Mosher. The family lived in the Midwest until their big move to Fullerton, CA in 1966. Terry excelled in school in view of her strong Midwest values, and received her degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis, in 1973. Shortly before graduation, she met the love of her life, Frank, who was a third-year law student. For nearly 40 years, they made a "great team" and their lives were intertwined with humor, family, love and service to others and the community. For 35 years, Terry devoted her life's work to the criminal justice system. In 1975 she was one of the first Pre-Trial Services Officers for U.S. Probation in Los Angeles. Beginning in 1977, she worked for the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office for five years. In 1982 Terry began her service as a State Probation Officer, and after several years returned to work for the Prosecutor's Office in the mid-1980s until her passing when she held the position of Administrative Manager. In addition to being a pioneer in victim advocacy, she served as a mentor and advisor to many young professional women. Terry had a passion and engagement for life, with an emphasis on humor and a compassion for others. Her first love was family and her children, and she also loved gardening, the outdoors and her book club of close friends. Although cut short, her life had a tremendous impact in the community and on the lives of the people she touched. We will miss her dearly. A service to celebrate Terry's life will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Hotel Murano, 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, WA. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the St. Leo Food Connection, 710 So. 13th St., Tacoma, WA 98405 or to the Family Justice Center Foundation Fund, Crystal Judson Family Justice Center, 718 Court "E", Tacoma, WA 98402. I was sad to hear of Terrys passsing, she was a very caring, loving and a nonjudgemental person and I considered her a good friend and Iam sure she will be missed by many. I think back on all the laughter we shared while working together and it makes me smile. I will never forget spending the night in line at the Tacoma Dome drinking cold coffee waiting to purchase tickets for Bruce Springsteens Tunnel of Love Tour. My thots and prayers are with you all.

Dear Family,

As you well know, your wife and mother was something special. I worked with Terry via the Clover Park Technical College Legal Support Program for 18 years. I was always so impressed with her commitment to quality in every aspect of her life. She was so very good to me and my students who interned with the prosecuting attorney's office. She made the time to stand by my side during one crucial time, which I will always admire and honor her for.

I apologize I was unable to attend the memorial, for I would have so liked to have honored her in person.

All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew Terry through her dear sister(my friend) Laurie. The few occasions we spent together were, for me, delightful. She was absolutely charming. I was immediately struck by her intelligence and lightening wit -- a trait I've found to be shared by all three Mosher siblings. I am in regular contact with Laurie and I've been most impressed by stories that serve to highlight Terry's character. I don't think I know of anyone who has faced a terminal illness with such strength and grace.
Our thoughts are with all of you in your profound loss.

Frank,

I cannot express how sorry I am to hear of this news. Terry was an amazing woman who always was the smartest in the room but was careful not to shine the light on herself if possible. We actually went to the DOC academy together and I have to admit I did get her in trouble a few times for talking in class but she was a loyal friend and took the heat without complaint. As I said she was amazing. When she did leave the agency it was clearly never the same. Terry had a wonderful ability to dispense with pretense and make others feel comfortable in any setting both professionally and socially. I will also never forget her dry sense of humor as her timing was precise and impeccable. This is a huge loss and I am unable to adequately express the depth of it. My deepest condolences to you and the family. Take Care

To Terry's Family, I want to express my deepest sorrow to you and your loss of Terry. She was always very kind to me while I was with the prosecutor's office. I cannot remember one encounter where she did not make a point in saying hello to me and making me feel I was an important part of a bigger cause. Go with grace. You are in my prayers.

Frank and Family, Not being in touch recently, I wasn't aware of Terry's bout with cancer. I was shocked and saddened to learn of her death. I remember so fondly of your being in our office, Frank, and wish you and your boys Godspeed in your grieving process. By not knowing Terry well, I have missed a great opportunity to know a wonderful human being.

Terry was the best victim advocate Pierce County ever had for murder cases. She was a true voice for families who lost a loved one, and I think it came from her strong bond with her own family. We were lucky to have shared in her life.

I was so sorry to hear about Terry. My thoughts are with you and in memory of her. I am glad to have had the more recent opportunity to visit with the two of you at Doug and Karol's - has it been a year and a half already? I remember when the two of you first met at Davis. My first impression of Terry then, and one which was not changed when last we met was that she was, simply, lovely! My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
