Thomas Alva Obituary

Thomas E. Alva Born in Gelnhausen, Germany and a longtime resident of Lakewood, passed away suddenly on May 17 at the age of 54. Tom is survived by his wife Rocio, and daughter Yesenia. Also surviving are two brothers, Manfred and Stephen Alva, a sister, Sonia Mueller, nephews Aaron Alva and Dominic Mueller, and a niece, Michelle Malette. Tom retired from Weyerhaeuser Company in 2009 after providing security services for 35 years. Tom had many friends and acquaintances, and was best known for his ability to never forget a face or a name. Tom's kitchen table was always a place to further friendships over conversation and coffee. Friends and family are invited on Sunday, May 22, 2011, from 2-4p.m., for a time of sharing memories and celebrating Tom's life at the home of Steve and Amy Alva (for more information email [email protected]). My prayers, my thoughts and my heart go out to Tom's family. Tom's gentle, kind spirit was expressed to all of us when he came to work each day at Weyerhaeuser. If you had a hard day, Tom would make it brighter with his smile. He truly cared for everyone. It's been a blessing to have worked with Tom. He will never be forgotten. God Bless you Tom!

I am so saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Tom and seeing his smiling face just about every day. It may seem like a little thing but what I appreciated most about Tom is that he would walk me to my car after work if it were dark. When he was driving around and monitoring our parking lots, if he noticed my car was still there he would actually come in the building or call me to make sure that I called him before I left so he could walk or drive me to my car. A true gentleman and a true Dad at heart. I always felt so happy when he was around. Loved his smile! To his family: Please know that Tom was extremely respected and well-liked at Weyerhaeuser. He made an enormous difference in many people’s lives. Thank you Tom for being part of my life.
