William Blaha Obituary

William G. Blaha PopPop Bill Born 2/16/1924 to James and Emma Blaha in Omaha, NE. After HS in 1941, Bill enlisted in the Navy and was part of their aviation unit in WWII. He served on many of the islands in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1947. He then moved to Shelton to married Viola Russell. There he was a watchmaker until 1950. From there he came to Tacoma and was an Electric Instrument Technician Civil Service for the AF until 1984. In 1990 Bill married Dee Anderson. He was a great stepdad to Traci, Kelli (Scot), and Jon (Amy), and truly enjoyed the 7 grandkids and 2 great-grandkids. Bill had a number of hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, and being with his bingo friends and family at BJ's in Fife. He also was the neighborhood "go to guy". He could solve any problem you threw at him, and loved doing just that. Special thanks to all of the neighbors and friends who have been there for him all of these years. Bill wrote himself that he saw 3 turtle races, been to 2 county fairs and seen an elephant and now it's time to go home. There will be an open house at 1507 N Cascade Ave., Tacoma from 2 - 6PM May 21st, 2011 to celebrate Bill's life and friendships. For more information please email [email protected].

Bill was Civilian Shop Supervisor while I was stationed at McChord AFB. Our 1st born was delivered at Ft Lewis Army Base while I was at work. I was very young at that time and was excited about seeing my wife and new son when I got off work after she called from the hospital. Bill said "get outta here and get over to that hospital to be with your new-born and your wife!!" He was a GREAT supervisor and everyone sure liked him. My wife got to meet him when we brought the baby to the shop days later. Glad he had kids and grandkids. I'm sure he made a terrific Dad and Grandpa! I worked with him for two years at McCord.
