WILLIAM STOTT Obituary

William Hart Stott Bill passed away at the age of 85 on Friday, March 11, 2011. He was born on March 23, 1925 in Yakima, Washington to Clinton and Cecile Stott. He attended Yakima High before moving to Port Orchard, Washington and then to Lakewood. Bill was legally blind in one eye and so could not join the service during the fighting of World War II. Having latent managerial and organizational skills, he became the Chief Steward of 2 commissaries in Kyoto, Japan, in the Army of Occupation. There he found the love of his life, Millie, and was married in August of 1947. Upon discharge from the service, Bill found work with Mount Rainier Ordinance Depot, then as a Post Engineer at Fort Lewis until his retirement in 1980.He enjoyed fishing, camping, home remodeling, restaurant dining, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sisters Hazel Preston (Ross) and Thyra Barrick (Sam). Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Millie; son Bill (Lei) of Port Orchard and daughter Barb Kell of Olympia; niece Katy McKim of Depoe Bay, Oregon, and nephew Sam Barrick, Jr. of Lakewood; granddaughters Shawnee Christenson, Cori Sabet, Jess Crosier, Iolanda Coles, and Cece Stott; great-granddaughter Elaina Christenson. Many thanks to the staff of Lakewood Healthcare Center and of Jade Park Care Center for the wonderful and personalized care while he was a resident. There will be a viewing at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. on March 16.

Gran and Boompy at Iolanda's wedding

Cece Stott

March 15, 2011

Boompy... That's the name we called him ever since I've been alive. I have always associated my grandfather with his scary booming voice and blue coveralls. I remember our weekly family visits to this house in Lakewood. It was a ritual. We arrived in the morning and had breakfast at the Old Country Buffet. After we sat down to eat he would brandish his personal pocket knife to cut his cantaloupe wedges and then thoroughly douse them with black pepper. It was so peculiar, but it's a memory that I carry with fondness.

I'm glad he went in his sleep and without an unnecessary amount of suffering. But my heart goes out to those closest to him. To my cousins, my Aunt Barbie, my dad, and especially Gran. To lose the one you love. I can't comprehend this but I don't want to. All I can do is offer my love and prayers to Gran. Stay strong. Live your life to the fullest when you're ready. I love both of you. And I miss you, Boompy.

My darling Uncle Bill

He was my first boyfriend, my lifelong pal, and apparently, my perpetual chauffeur.

When I was a baby, he lifted me in his arms.
When I was a toddler, he "rode" me on his handlebars.
When I was a kid, he drove me in his Buick convertible.
When I was a teen, he rescued me in his '49 Chevy.
And my entire life, he carried me in his heart.

He never judged me.
He never lectured me.
He never called me fat.
He just loved me unconditionally,
And my entire life, I adored him.

I love you, Uncle Bill.
I send you hugs,
I send you kisses,
I wish you Godspeed,
And for the rest of my life ...
I'll miss you.
