Francis Kabisch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2011.
Francis H. Kabisch (Frank) March 16, 1937 - April 1, 2011 Priest, Husband, Father, Grandfather Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Franz and Helen, Frank never gave up his Brooklyn accent or stories of Ryerson Street where he spent his youth. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1965 and was on the faculty at St. John Vianney, VA where he met his future wife Chloe. They married in June 1971. Although Frank worked in the private sector most of his career, his last employment at Ft. Lewis, counseling soldiers, was his most rewarding job. Frank was a compassionate man, forever impacting the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Society found a great friend in Frank, who gave wholly of himself in pursuit of a better and more just world. He had great love for painting, photography, music, his TV, but most of all, his family. He died at home in Lakewood, WA where he fought his battle with Multiple Myeloma for the past 5 1/2 years. His family is forever indebted to the healthcare professionals of Multicare/Tacoma General Oncology for all of their support. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Chloe, daughter Tara and son-in-law Jim, grandchildren Kellan, Zoe Brooklyn, and Dexter, son Michael and daughter-in-law Jessie, son Tim and daughter-in-law Debi, grandson Monty Pope and unborn granddaughter, all of whom love him dearly. He is missed and remembered. A funeral mass will be held at St. Leo's Church in Tacoma, WA on April 14, 2011 at 12:10PM.

I'm sorry to hear about Frank's passing!! He was a passionate man who loved his family, lived fully and embraced philosophy, theology and art into his life. He exhibited strength, passion, courage, faith and more!!

I'm sorry for your loss!

Frank was a "bigger than life" man with a huge passion for his family, his friends, and justice for all God's people, especially the poor and vulnerable. Although he resigned his status as a cleric in the Church, he continued to think of himself as a priest and brought that caring spirit to everyone he met. His courage and compassion were especially evident in his valiant and grace filled battle with cancer. As always, he was an inspiration to his fortunate family and friends.

An old Gaelic Prayer . . .

deep peace of the running waves to you.

deep peace of the flowing air to you.

deep peace of the shining stars to you.

deep peace of the quiet earth to you

(Please accept our deepest sympathy these days. Both of us have fond memories of often visiting Frank at his home early in his illness. We enjoyed his sense of humor even in the midst of pain, his reflections about the "big questions", his creative spirit on the computer screen and on the art canvas, his great courage in coping with Multiple Myeloma and all the side effects of medication. We first met Frank and Kris at St. Leo in late 2000 after our move to Tacoma. We noticed his open heart and big smile.)

Frank is a great married Roman Catholic priest. His legacy of compassion and oneness with people on the street continues to inspire me and the 100+ married priests in the Puget Sound area.
