Viola Pearl Hopen Viola "Pearl" Hopen, 73, of Tacoma, WA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on July 31, 2014 from brain cancer. She was born on March 6, 1941 in Springfield, MO to Marvin and Leona Epperson. Pearl attended Franklin Pierce High School and later attended TCC. She was employed by the Tacoma School District. She was inspirational in starting the Back-To-School clothing program. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and antiquing. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 44 years, Ruben, and their children Donna (Ted), Cathy (Rick), Steven, and Loren, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank Dr. Umesh Chitaley and his staff at Tacoma General Hospital Oncology Dept. and also Hospice and their staff for the compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014, 1:00 PM, in the Valley Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
