STANLEY WORSWICK Obituary

Stanley W. Worswick June 1927 - February 2016 Respected Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Judge, Skier, Sailor, Musician, and Friend Stan grew up in Depression-era poverty, and left high school without graduating. After an honorable discharge from service in the US Army, he completed his GED and became the first member of his family to graduate from college. He went on to graduate from Harvard Law School and had a distinguished career that spanned almost 40 years as a practicing lawyer, assistant secretary of state, adjunct law professor, Pierce County Superior Court Judge, and Washington Court of Appeals, Division II Judge. Stan always said that the smartest thing he ever did was to marry the love of his life, Ann Geer, who he considered the most intelligent and beautiful woman he had ever known. They were married for more than 62 years and raised three sons (Nathan, Todd, and Matt) who learned much from their parents, including personal fortitude, independent thinking, and the value of family. Stan had diverse interests, and enjoyed everything from the great outdoors to poetry and music. He played the drums in a variety of musical groups, including a Scottish pipe band and a jazz trio. His love of the Puget Sound region was exemplified by a life full of climbing, skiing, and sailing adventures. He scaled all the glaciated peaks in the State, including Mt. Rainier five times, cruised the inland waterways of Washington and Canada for decades, and was an avid skier well into his 80s. During his exceptional life, Stan forged family bonds and many lifelong friendships he truly valued. He was a trailblazer in his family, and was proud to see his children and grandchildren blaze their own trails. His sons are grateful to have inherited his spirit, determination, and interests, as they pursued careers and lives involving the law, sailing, skiing, and intellectual growth. Stan died peacefully, surrounded by loving family, at the cherished home where he had raised his family and that had served as the base for so many accomplishments and adventures. Ann would like to thank Mary Pat Bergin Sperry from Group Health and Lisa Worswick for all they did to honor Stan's wishes to be home at the end. A celebration of Stan's life will be announced at a later date.
