Barbara l. (Melton) Fleenor(1954-2014)

Barbara L. Melton Fleenor, 59, Madison, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at her residence.
Born Sept. 14, 1954, in Princeton, she was the daughter of Andrew W. and Esther E. Sickman Melton. She married Steven D. Fleenor on Aug. 4, 1973, in Brownstown.
Barbara was raised in Oakland City and graduated from Wood Memorial High School in 1972. The young family lived in the Brownstown and North Vernon areas for 10 years before settling in Jefferson County in 1983. Besides providing a warm and lovely home for her husband and children, she attended beauty college and became a licensed beautician and also provided private babysitting services and housekeeping services.
Barbara is remembered by her Hanover Baptist Church family as an active and faithful member who would help wherever needed, especially in the music program. She enjoyed collecting angel and Precious Moments figurines, interior decorating, shopping and helping others. Early in life Barbara enjoyed boating and fishing with her husband and sons. She loved to bake chocolate chip cookies and found great enjoyment in sharing them with everyone. She had a special gift in helping others who were handicapped. She had a love of music and especially enjoyed the Gaithers. Barbara had a great fondness for her Yorkie, Miss Priss, and enjoyed dressing her up daily.
She was diagnosed with liver cancer on Feb. 10, 2014, and began a courageous battle and never wavered in her faith and strength. Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mom and caring sister and will be missed greatly by her family and community.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Steven D. Fleenor of Madison; two sons, Jeremy S. Fleenor and S. Ryan (Samantha) Fleenor, all of Madison; three sisters, Catherine Davis of Jasper, Carol Wirth of Seymour and Linda (Jim) Brace of Jasper; brother, Richard (Sandy) Melton of Francisco; three sisters-in-law, Thelma Crider of Norman, Vivian Mouser of Indianapolis and Marla (Orval) Fish of Brownstown; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew W. and Esther E. Sickman Melton; father- and mother-in-law, Dan and Laura Fleenor; brothers-in-law, Jack Crider, Bob Mouser, Boyd Fleenor and Richard Fleenor; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Lois Fleenor and Sue Fleenor
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Hanover Baptist Church, 151 W. Main St. in Hanover, with Pastor J.D. Traylor officiating. Burial will take place at Fairmount Cemetery in Madison.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, and from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
The family requests memorials may be given to the Barbara Fleenor Memorial Fund.
