Dickie Lee Burke, 68, of Seymour, passed away at 7:34 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, in Seymour.
Born Nov. 25, 1944, in Seymour, he was the son of the late Curtis L. Burke and Doris Alberta (Blevins) Burke Huckleberry. She survives in Florida. On Aug. 23, 1964, at Uniontown Baptist Church, he married Marie Collman, who survives.
Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
, where he served in the submarine service on the USS Triton from 1964 to 1968. He retired in 2000 after 30 years of service with Norfolk and Southern Railroad, where he was a welding supervisor. He then retired from Voss and Sons Funeral Service, where he served 11 years as a funeral director
assistant. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 146, Eastern Star 134 and American Legion Post 89. He enjoyed fishing and taking family trips in his RV. His greatest love was being married to the one he cherished.
He will be greatly missed by his family, especially his grandchildren, and his extended family at Voss.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Brian Lee (Debbie) Burke and Michael Dale (Brandy) Burke; grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Burke, Brandi Michelle Burke, Michael Alexander Burke, Sarah Elizabeth Burke and Emileigh Bayonne Burke; and brothers, Steven (Dana) Huckleberry and Bob Huckleberry.
He was preceded in death by his father; and brothers, Darryl Dewayne Burke and Jackie Wayne Burke.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, with the Rev. Dennis Allman officiating. Burial will take place at Uniontown Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. There will be a Voss dove release.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Shriners Children's Hospital.
