Dwight Elmer Jennings, 81, of Seymour passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.
Dwight was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Huntington, the son of Earl F. and Ethel F. (Dormire) Jennings. He married Beverly Krumme on April 27, 2007, in Indianapolis.
He graduated from Huntington High School in 1949. He entered the U. S. Navy after high school and served on the Battleship New Jersey during the Korean War
. After his tour with the Navy, he joined the U. S. Army
and served in Germany with the cryptographic service until he was honorably discharged in 1959. Dwight owned and operated Jennings Sales and Service for 20 years retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 1925 and American Legion Post 89.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Debra (Scott) Shepler, of Marion; two grandchildren, Heather (James) Winger of North Manchester and Ashlae Shepler of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Blaike Smith, Samuel Winger and Emmaline Winger, all of North Manchester; several nieces and nephews; three stepchildren, Galen (Mae) Krumme, of Seymour, Nanette (Lou) Burke of Plant City, Fla., and Karen D. Hinton of Indianapolis; eight stepgrandchildren, Megan (Matthew) Pritchard, Daniel Hinton, Ashley (Jeffrey) Blackwell, Alisha Mills, Logan Mills, Michael Krumme, Emily Krumme and Mallory Krumme; and four step-great-grandchildren, Addison Pritchard, Karson Blackwell, Khloe Blackwell and Bentley Mills. Dwight also is survived by a brother, Richard (Joanne) Jennings of Flintville, Tenn.
His parents and three brothers including his twin, Duane Earl Jennings, and Roy Melvin Jennings and Ralph Eugene Jennings, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, where the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg will officiate. American Legion Post 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour, will conduct military rites.
