Ervin Fredrick Hoevener

Ervin Fredrick Hoevener, 89, Seymour, passed on to his Lord and Savior peacefully at 12:45 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Ervin was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. He was employed at the U.S. Postal Service where he retired as the superintendent of mail after 30 years of service. He served Jackson County as a member of the county council. He was employed part-time at Nolting's Grocery Store in the store's office as an accountant. He and his wife opened and owned Fantastic Sam's in Seymour. He was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities, including 12 years as financial secretary.
Born Feb. 17, 1924, in Seymour, he was the son of Henry and Katherine (Schleibaum) Hoevener. On Feb. 7, 1954, he married Melba Irene Surenkamp at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.
Survivors include his two daughters, Nancy (Rick) Stewart, Seymour, and Karen (Vern) Heber, Greenwood; two grandchildren, Ben (Whitney) Heber, Trafalgar, and Josh (Veronica) Heber, New Whiteland; one great-grandson, Isaac J. Heber; three sisters-in-law, Vera Hoevener Monroe, Kathleen
Surenkamp and Marietta Surenkamp, all of Seymour; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melba Irene; two brothers, Henry and Robert Hoevener; three sisters, Alma Dettmer, Dorothy Eickbush and Melba White; and infant brothers and sisters.
The Rev. Jeffery Stuckwisch will conduct the funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be on from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.
