George Parker, 87, of Seymour, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.
Born May 11, 1926, in Solsberry, he was the son of Ira John and Lilly (Krebbs) Parker. On Nov. 14, 1953, in Bloomington, he married Shirley Jackson.
George served in the U.S. Army
during World War II; after the war he returned home and worked as a Seymour city police officer
and as a heavy equipment operator for Rust Construction and Rose Acre Farms before retiring in 2004. He was a member of Seymour Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Harold (Kathy) Parker, Lisa (Mike) Goforth and Brad Parker; grandchildren, Ryan Parker, Jennifer Parker, Brittany (Lloyd) Robbins and Breanna Goforth; two great-grandchildren, Kolton Baughman, and Zeppelin Robbins; a brother, Earl Parker; and a sister, Edna Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Betty Parker, Virginia Day and Wilma Wood.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, with Pastor Harvey Kornegay officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
