John Herman Oberring Jr., 79, of Seymour, passed away at IU Medical Center, Indianapolis, on Sunday, May 26, 2013.
John was born July 14, 1933, in Jennings County, the son of John William Sr. and Agnes Terry Oberring. John served in the U.S. Marines. He was married to Jeanette Jane Wetzel on Sept. 6, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. He was a quality control inspector for Amoco Chemicals for 20 years, retiring in 1985.
John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, was an avid fan of Seymour girls and boys basketball and was honored for being Seymour Lady Owls Basketball No. 1 Fan, 1972-2010. He loved his family and his little dog, Hollie. He also enjoyed
fishing, gardening and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane; his daughter, Kathy Bumb; granddaughter, Jessica (Josh) Stock; and three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Caleb and Carly Stock.
His parents and brother, Marvin Oberring, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where the Rev. Philip Bloch and the Rev. James Rodriguez will officiate. Visitation will be at Burkholder Funeral Chapel 4 to 8 p.m Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with graveside military rites provided by American Legion Post 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 1925, Diabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour.
