Robert E. "Bob" Hinton, 80, Seymour, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
Robert graduated from Spring Hope High School in 1951, and then enlisted with the U.S. Air Force
during the Korean War
. After the war, he met and married Catherine Schulte Hinton in Seymour at Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Victor Mack.
Bob was an outdoors enthusiast, and hunting and fishing were always his passion. He started working with The Tribune as an Associated Press wire editor and photographer. He was part owner-operator of The Gun Trader and then worked for Big Blue Stores as the manager of the sporting goods department before retiring.
He loved spending time with his family and most of all his grandchildren. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, both of Seymour, and was a life-time member of the National Rifle Association.
Born in Spring Hope, N.C., on Oct. 19, 1932, he was the son of Alkie C. Hinton and Ida Baines Hinton, who preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Catherine; three sons, Mike and Laura, Greg and Cindy, and Tom and Michelle; grandchildren, Theresa, Dexter, Chris, Nick, Alex, Stephen, Conner and Braden; brother, Jerry and Beth Hinton; sister, Peggy and Manly Wilder; sister-in-law, Libby Hinton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, A.C. Hinton Jr.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, with the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with a Voss dove release and full military honors by the VFW, American Legion, DAV, Korean and Vietnam Veterans.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran church or school or Lutheran Community Home.
