Edward Louis Speckner, 90, of Seymour, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, in Bloomington.
He was born in Seymour on May 25, 1924, the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary R. (Megel) Speckner. On July 17, 1948, he married Mary Jo Hirtzel in Seymour at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Mary Jo passed away Aug. 29, 2006.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and a graduate of Shields High School. After serving overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II, Edward returned to Seymour to work with his father, Andrew Speckner, and uncle, Michael Speckner, at Speckner Tire Service. He spent the rest of his working career at Cummins Engine Co., Columbus. After retiring, Edward and Mary Jo enjoyed many winters in Florida.
Edward is survived by four children, Michael (Maryse) Speckner, Jodie (Rodney) Friend, Sue (Warren) Koop and Julie Kay (Kenny) Klein; a sister, Annette Wire; seven grandchildren, Eric and Vincent Speckner, Andy, Jon and Abby Koop and Kyler and Kelsi Klein; five great-grandsons, Azi, Xander, Jacob and Noah Koop and Eli Speckner; and a great-granddaughter on the way.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jo; brothers, Robert and Eugene Speckner; a sister, Mary Catherine Stewart; and an infant brother, Oscar Speckner.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 to
7 p.m. Tuesday at Voss Chapel and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. A Rosary service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Korean and Vietnam Veterans and the Disabled American Veterans, all of Seymour.
