Elizabeth "Libby" Roberts Thomas, Seymour, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at her residence.

Libby graduated from Morehead State, earning a bachelor's degree in secondary English education. She also earned a master's in education from Indiana University. She taught English and language arts at Brownstown High School, Medora High School, and Shields Junior High School. Most recently, before her retirement, she taught at Seymour Middle School. However, she never truly retired from teaching, for she was ready to instruct family and friends on proper English grammar usage.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Seymour. She
volunteered for Schneck Medical Center Foundation and with Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Indiana Retired Teacher's Association. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In these later years, she enjoyed traveling and dining out with her special friend, Charlie Hunterman. Many will remember her serenading birthday celebrants with her special rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song.
Born Aug. 24, 1930, in Morehead, Ky., she was the daughter of Mort and Hester (Lyons) Roberts. On Dec. 18, 1954, in Morehead, she married Harman Thomas, who preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1991.
Survivors include her children, Frank Thomas, Dan (Susie) Thomas and Beth (Bill) Wade; grandchildren, Seth Thomas, Lillian Thomas, Autumn Wade and Will Wade; a sister, Virginia Reynolds; and her special friend, Charlie Hunterman.
In addition to her husband and parents, Libby was preceded in death by a brother, William Roberts.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.
Memorial may be written in Libby's memory to First United Methodist Church or the Jackson County Public Library.
