Emma L. Anderson Sorley Riffe, 75, of Florida, formerly of Surprise, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, under the loving care of hospice and her family.
Born March 23, 1938, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Ralph A. and Ruby (Lutes) Anderson.
Emma was a member of Surprise Christian Church and attended Beverly Hills Community Church. She was a graduate of Cortland High School and Indiana University School of Nursing. She enjoyed working at Jackson County Hospital, now Schneck Medical Center, delivering babies and later the Jackson County Health Department, where she was instrumental in beginning the expectant parents classes and talking Dr. Templeton into allowing the first "daddy" in the delivery room in her county. She enjoyed dancing and being with her family.
On June 8, 1958, she married Richard Allen Sorley, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 28, 2003, she married William "Bud" Riffe, who survives in Florida.
Other survivors include her children, Lisa (Duane) Davis, Curtis (Cynthia) Sorley, Teri (Cliff) Larsh and Tom (Robin) Sorley; grandchildren, Greg Davis, Carol Rice, Stephen Sorley, Lauren Bradberry, David Larsh, Aaron Larsh, Megan Kosecki and Jesse Sorley; great-grandchildren, Jayse, Miles and Emma; brother, James Anderson; sisters, Donna Heiman, Dorothy Crouch, Clara Claycamp and Carol Gray Nichalson; several foster children, including Dianne Stewart Callaway; and stepchildren, Venus Thomas, Kathy Thomas, Tammy Nardozzi and Gerald Riffe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; and three brothers, Jack, Robert and Roy Anderson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, with Brian Richard and Doug Pogue officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Acme.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
