Harry Thomas Montel, 85, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, in Greenwood.

Born Feb. 22, 1929, in Vallonia, he was the son of Harry Henry Montel and Pearl Marchand Montel. He married Patricia June Judkins on Jan. 1, 1950, at First Baptist Church, Seymour.
Harry was a graduate of Seymour High School and lettered eight times in two different sports. He was a corporal in the Army and served in the Korean War and served from December 1951 through December 1953 as a member of the occupation forces in Germany. He was employed by Detroit Diesel Allison General Motors for 30 years and was a resident of Sarasota, Florida, since 1985. Harry attended Lakeside Lutheran Church in Venice, Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Sarasota; children, Stephen (Lesley) Montel and James (Geri) Montel; three grandchildren, Courtney Montel, M. Megan Montel Rule and Jor dan Montel Assmann; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Robert Rowe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Okla Smith; and father and mother–in-law, Waldo and Lena Judkins.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Voss Funeral Service with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Graveside services will follow at Riverview Cemetery with a military flag presentation.
Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Parkinson's Association.
