Marvin D. Kost, 67, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home.
Marvin was born July 30, 1945, at his family farm near Central Barren. He was the son of Harry L. and Elizabeth F. Stevens Yost, both of whom preceded him in death. On Dec. 21, 1968, in Paoli, he married Linda Sue Lanham, who survives.
Marvin was employed with North Harrison Community School Corp., Ramsey, and retired after 32 years of faithful service as a maintenance man. He was the school's "fix-it man," who always had a smile on his face, a joke or two to share and the job fully completed. He was well loved and respected by all staff and students of the North Harrison school systems.
Marvin was involved in various activities throughout his life, including working on his parents' farm, FFA, softball and baseball coaches for his two children and loved working outdoors, landscaping, mowing grass and cutting wood. He was an avid Indiana University and Indianapolis Colts fan, handyman and loved to add information or jokes to the Rev. Jeff Reed's daily life or weekly sermon at Unity Chapel Church. However, his passion was spending time with Linda, his wife of 44 years, and his grandchildren (five girls and one boy). Wherever his grandchildren were, so was he, always supporting and loving them to the fullest.
On June 8, 2013, Marvin was to celebrate his 50th class reunion with Morgan School and was helping with the celebration. While attending Morgan Township School, he completed grades one through 12 without missing one day of school. Marvin was the man who never slowed down, always willing to help, his smiling face, comic ways of joking around, and the way everyone could tell he loved life and family beyond belief.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Lanham Kost; son, Jonathon D. (Kimberly) Kost of Louisville, Ky.; daughter, Michelle L. Koester of Seymour; brothers, Robert (Delores) Kost of New Albany, Calvin (Shirley) Kost of Pantego, Texas, Dewey (Marilyn) Kost of New Albany, Dale (Vickie) Kost of Indianapolis, and Gary Kost of Indianapolis; sisters, Betty (Don) Sarver of Rockport, Ruth Graeter of Pekin, Wilma Kost of Indianapolis, Mary Gordon of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Sharon (Lowell) Parks of Corydon; and grandchildren, Kourtland, Karrington and Kensley Koester, Grayson, Easton and Harper Kost.
He was preceded in death by a son-in law, Tom Koester; brother, Donald Kost; brothers-in-law, Bud Graeter and Robert Gordon; and sisters-in-law, Wilma and Lola Kost.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Unity Chapel United Methodist Church, 1760 Lost Creek Road NW, Ramsey, with the Rev. Jeff Reed officiating. Burial will take place at Central Barren Cemetery, New Salisbury.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Swaren's Funeral Home, 1405 State Road 64 NW, Ramsey, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.
