Robert Franklin "Bob" Murphy, 94, Scottsburg, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Scott Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1919, in Scott County, he was the son of the late Samuel Scott and Ethel (Ray) Murphy. Bob married Lillian Agnes Wells on Dec. 24, 1937.
Bob attended Spencerian School of Business and Indiana University Southeast and worked as an assistant bridge maintenance engineer for the Indiana Department of Transportation in Seymour, retiring on June 30, 1985, after 27 years. He was a farmer. He was a member of Zoah Christian Church, served during World War II in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the International
Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 555 for more than 65 years, American Legion Post 234, Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department since 1941, a former 4-H leader and member who was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame, charter member of both the Maine Anjou Cattle Association and the S.H.S. Alumni Association, a former volunteer for the Scott Memorial Hospital Guild and a former member of Moose Family Center 2324.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Agnes (Wells) Murphy; three sons, Robert S. Murphy, Franklin, Michael P. (Annette) Murphy and Teddy D. (Melanie) Murphy of Scottsburg; four daughters, Regina (George) Pastrick, Columbus, Sonja (Kenneth) Baldridge, Louisville, Ky., and Nancy Swank and Linda Murphy, both of Scottsburg; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; a great-grandson; and three brothers, Ray, Leland and Samuel Murphy.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Home, with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Scottsburg High School Alumni Association c/o Collins Funeral Home.
