Walter E. "Wally" York 86, Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.

Walter graduated from Seymour High School in 1944, where he was known as "Shorty" and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a job setter from Ford Motor Co. after many years of service, where he was known for his saying, "I Can't Do It All."
Through the years, he enjoyed bowling and was an avid fisherman and loved sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana University Hoosiers.
His family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Community North Hospice and the many doctors who have cared for him over the years. They would like to offer special heartfelt thanks to those from Healthy Heart for their exceptional care.
Born in Azalea, he was the son of Charles and Nora Wyat York, who preceded him in death. He married Betty Jo Layton on Aug. 20, 1949, in Indianapolis.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Betty Jo; son, Danny York and his wife, Kris; daughter, Jeri York Black; grandchildren, Taylor York, Shelby Jo York, Jeffrey (Becky) Black and Shawn Black; great-grandchildren, Britney Danielle Black, Chassity Marie Black, Emily Black, Cynthia Kaylee Black and Lucas Black; and great-great-granddaughter, Harper Black.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrtle, Marie, Althy, Helen and Dorothy; and brothers, Herman and Ray.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Flanner and Buchanan - Lawrence, 5215 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
