Donald E. Fields, 77, of Brownstown, formerly of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour after an extended illness.
Born March 23, 1936, in Seymour, he was the son of William Henry and Mary Alice (Thorn) Fields. On July 23, 1978, he married Sharon Shelton, who survives.
Donald was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Cummins Inc. after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 655, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 and American Legion Post 89. He enjoyed horse racing, fishing and the company of his many friends. He especially loved being with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Besides his loving wife, Sharon "Shorty" Fields, he is survived by his children, Donald Fields (fiancée Kristen Rieckers) and Derek (Christy) Fields; grandchildren, Ashley and Dylan Fields and Mason, Pryce and Carter Fields; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie Harmon, Maxine Shepard, Helen Martin and Norma Corwin; and brother, Roy Fields.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, with the Rev. Brian Richard officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
