Kenneth N. "Kenny" Sharer

Kenneth "Kenny" N. Sharer, 85, of Columbus died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at his residence.
Kenny was born in Indianapolis on Sept. 9, 1926, the son of the late F.W. and Mildred Nolen Sharer. On Oct. 6, 1977, he married Mary Lou Abner, who survives.
Kenny served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He worked as a carpenter, and later as a construction superintendent, for contractors in southern Indiana, managing large construction projects including Cummins World Headquarters.
He attended the Bible Church of Columbus.
He had many interests including taking trips to Sharer, Ky., to visit his family homestead, tracing his genealogy, music, dancing and spending time with his family and friends. He loved carpentry and woodworking as a vocation and hobby. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Rev. Jerry K. Day Sr. officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
Military rites will be performed by the Seymour Veterans Color Guard.

Survivors include his wife; sisters, Katherine (Harry) Savage of Harrisburg, Pa., and Jonell Sanborn of Littleton, Colo; four children, Steve (Beth) Sharer of Seymour, Chris Sharer of Seymour, Lori Sharer of Queenstown, Md., and Mark (Leslie) Sharer of Paris Crossing; stepdaughter, Vicki (James) Brown of Columbus; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Kenny is preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
