Vercil I. Brown, 88, of Seymour, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, with her family by her side.
Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Frankfort, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Norman E. and Anna B. Goins Wilson, both of whom preceded her in death. On Jan. 5, 1945, in Lexington, Kentucky, she married Leland V. Brown. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2003.
Mrs. Brown had been a member of First Baptist Church in Seymour for more than 50 years. While a member there, she served as superintendent of the junior high Sunday school classes for 35 years, nursery superintendent for 10 years and Baptist Youth Fellowship superintendent for 30 years. Vercil was a member of WMS of First Baptist Church, a 39-year member of Jackson County Extension Club, a 4-H leader for more than 35 years and taught cooking at the Girl's Club for many years. She had been employed at HL Green Department store, Sylvania and the Morris store and cleaned houses for many people besides being a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a special love for her flowers, the outdoors and her fur babies, Cricket, her dog, and her cats, Sabrina, Tiger and Baby.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith A. (Jerry) Turner; sons, Leland V. Brown Jr., David W. (Mary) Brown and Joseph N. (Dondra) Brown; grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Kincaid, Kyle (Jenny) Brown, Jacob Daniel Brown, Joseph Christopher Brown and Samuel Lee Brown (Shannon Goings, fiancée); great-grandchildren, Brandon Mark Holtman, Colin Phillip and Madison Leigh Brown; her sister, Joyce (Bob) Carey; and her sister-in-law, Norma Jean Wilson.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, April Elaine Brown.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Larry Tingle officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Seymour, Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or Jackson County 4-H Foundation.

I just learned of her passing as I was out of state. So sad for all of you, though certain God has a beautiful angel with him. I truly loved this wonderful woman...the gleam in her eyes always spoke of love and compassion. Prayers for Dave, Judy and Leland as you have lost a treasure. She will be remembered by all.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Vercil our thoughts and prayers go out to the family . She was a fantastic one of a kind lady! Always treated me like one of her own and one of the kindest warmest people I knew even when I didn't warrant it. God has some great help with his needs. May God bless you all.
