Kathryn L. Spivey Anthony, 88, Columbus, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Anthony was a medical transcriptionist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis and worked in civil service for 15 years. She later worked for Cummins Inc. as a secretary for 11 years and for many years as a secretary for several local attorneys and physicians.
She attended Ball State University and Indiana University. She had been an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving as Circle Leader, Sunday school teacher, secretary for the Executive Board of Women's Society and was a choir member.
She was a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Leaf and Bud Garden Club where she had served as secretary, was active and volunteered at the Senior Center Club where she served as secretary of the executive board for two terms, and was secretary-treasurer for Modern Homemakers Home Extension Club. She was also a member of the Indianapolis Museum of Art Columbus Gallery and the Historical Society. She regularly volunteered at local nursing homes playing piano dinner music and volunteered at Foundation for Youth-Girls Club where she taught knitting and piano. She enjoyed genealogy and was an avid Republican Party supporter.
Born June 6, 1924, in Seymour, she was the daughter of George and Martha Stockover Kasting. She married Lawrence Spivey in 1948, who preceded her in death in 1963. She then married Robert Anthony in 1991. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Jack) Clark, Columbus; granddaughter, Amanda (Wayne) Smith, Camby; great-grandchildren, Clarissa and Brianna Smith, Camby; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Frank, Dennis, G. Roland, John, Lynn and Wilfred Kasting.
The Rev. Chris Lantz will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel, Pearl Street, Columbus. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church Music fund or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
