George William Comanich, 88, Baytown, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17, 2014.
George was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Orient, Ill. He was the son of Charles Comanich and Julia Homan Comanich.
In 1942, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served four years during World War II. He was assigned to submarine service and spent most of his time in New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines.
After returning home, George enrolled in Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (now known as Missouri University of Science and Technology), earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineer-
ing in 1951. Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. hired George in 1951, where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1985.
George married Melba Lunte Comanich in Seymour on Nov. 30, 1952.
George was very active at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Baytown, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Lunte Comanich of Seymour and Baytown, Texas; children, Camilla Comanich and husband Scott Compton of Berkeley, Calif., and Charles Comanich and wife Lori Eshbach Comanich, Baytown, Texas; son-in-law, Steven Carpenter, Maple Valley, Wash.; and grandchildren, Canon Comanich, Baytown, Texas, and Rachael Carpenter, Johnathan Carpenter and Amy Carpenter, Maple Valley, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Comanich Carpenter; and a sister, Mary Comanich Dillon.
Church services were held in Baytown, Texas, on Thursday.
Local visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, 419 N. Chestnut St., Seymour. A committal service will follow the funeral service at Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1200 E. Lobit St., Baytown, Texas 77520, or the in memory of Carol Comanich Carpenter.
