Mary Lynn Kasting, 87, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Franklin. She had been a resident of Franklin since 1948.

Born Feb. 2, 1927, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Thomas Volney Carter and Helen Steele (Blevins) Carter. She married Wilfred E. "Willie" Kasting on April 17, 1948, in Seymour. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1994.
Mary graduated from Shields High School in Seymour and attended Purdue University. She served eight years as Johnson County recorder and retired from Johnson County government. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, Johnson County Extension Homemakers and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was an avid Colts, Pacers and Purdue sports fan and was a season ticket holder for both the Colts and the Pacers for several years.
Survivors include one daughter, Nickala "Nicki" Kasting of Franklin; a son, Thomas (Phyllis) Kasting of Franklin; two grandchildren, Kyle (Kelsey) Kasting and Kim (Josh) Minton; and two great-grandchildren, Avery Minton and Ellie Minton, all of Franklin; two sisters, Pat Ives, of Rockford, Ill., and Tommy Jo Shupe, of South Whitley; stepmother, Florence Carter of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie; sister, Betty Abel; brothers-in-law, Frank, Dennis, G. Roland, John and Lynn Kasting, and Dewey Abel; and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Spivey Anthony.
The Rev. Jenothy Rather will conduct a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary And Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kasting Family Charitable Fund via the Johnson County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 217, Franklin, IN 46131.
