Orville Howard, 80, of Seymour, entered his eternal, heavenly home at 8:06 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Orville was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Putney, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Oscar and Parley Taylor Howard. On Sept. 6, 1952, he was united in marriage to Jean Nolan, who survives.
Orville proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He attended school in Salem. He retired after 27 years from Cummins Engine Co., where he was a department supervisor. After his retirement from Cummins, he was supervisor for the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department. Orville was a 58-year member of First Baptist Church in Seymour.
He was a deacon, serving numerous terms as the chairman, a Sunday school superintendent, and he served on other boards. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for fishing and gardening. His most treasured moments were spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Livi Lou. Orville's contributions to both his family and church were many, and he will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; daughter, Amanda (Jay) Gerth; grandchildren, Noah Alexander and Olivia Louise; brother, Bill (Janet) Howard; sisters, Ruby (John) Inman, Frances Brasher, Bobby Hoyt, Debra Jean (Darrell) Holstine, Fern (John) Blanton; sister-in-law, Nola Howard; and many nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lorenzo (Jean), Glen, and Jackie Howard; and sister, Ruth Howard.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Voss Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Tingle and the Rev. Bruce Cochran officiating.
Family and friends may meet with the family from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center, Cancer Center of Schneck Medical Center or First Baptist Church.
