James Arthur Rodriguez Sr., 79, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at his home in Mobile, Alabama. He was a Parkinson's patient for 22 years.

Born Jan. 23, 1935, in Mobile, he was the son of August and Ruby Rodriguez.
James was a graduate of McGill Institute, and he attended Spring Hill College. He served our nation in the U.S. Army and National Guard for 14 years. He was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and supported his family as a pharmaceutical salesman and later as a medical supply salesman before retiring in 1991. Jim's hobbies included square dancing, clogging and motorcycle riding.
Survivors include his wife, Nita (Felis) of 57 years; sister, Ruby Whittington; four children, the Rev. Jimmy (Pam) Rodriguez, of Seymour, Michael (Karen) Rodriguez, Steven Rodriguez and Sheryl Barrios; eight grandchildren, Allison (John) Snyder, Sydney Barrios, Adam (Kyla) Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez, Mary Caitlyn Rodriguez, Michael David Rodriguez, Anne Catherine Rodriguez and Andrew Rodriguez; along with nieces and nephews.
In his desire to find a cure for Parkinson's, he donated his body to be used to study the effects of the disease on the body. Cremation and internment will take place at a later date.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Church, Mobile, Alabama, with Father James Zoghby and Father John Boudreaux presiding.
