Allan Wayne Bennett, 59, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, with his loving family by his side. He had been battling illness for six months.

Born in Seymour on April 16, 1954, Allan was the oldest of five children born to Edward Wayne and Cora Louise (Marksberry) Bennett Sr.
Allan was a member of Brownstown Community Church. He was a member of Crothersville Veterans of Foreign Wars 1083, where he enjoyed getting together with friends to play bingo.
Allan was a 1972 graduate of Seymour High School.
He was a career Marine and served the country for 20 years. He was a veteran of Desert Storm. During his time in the U.S. Marines, Allan was able to travel and see much of the world. He enjoyed sharing his experiences with all his nieces and nephews. A proud veteran, Allan was always eager to tell of the things he had experienced while serving his country. He retired in 1993 as a gunnery sergeant.
Allan loved his family very much. He is survived by his brother, Ed Jr. "Buck" and Sheila Shelton-Bennett; sisters, Anna Collins-Mauk, Penny and Butch Burke, and Beverly and Rob Helton. Allan was blessed with several nieces and nephews who blessed him with several great-nieces and great-nephews. His nieces and nephews are Rusty (Anita) Collins, Kenny (Missy) Collins, Tonya (Tim) Collins-Snyder, Misty (Andy) Bennett-Ruddick, Homer Delph, Candy (Cornelius) Helton-Neely and Makenzie and Madison Bennett. His great-nieces and great-nephews are Alexis and Courtney Collins, Marissa, Kikki and Kacee Collins, Jasmine and Kenneth Graham, Dustin, Kiersten and Justin Ruddick, Daisy Delph, Marcus Pierce and Morgan Helton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Holly Marie Delph.
Funeral service will be at Voss Chapel, Seymour, at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Samuel Allman officiating.
A committal service will be at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, at 1 p.m. Friday.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday.
