Billy Clevinger Woodrum GRUNDY, Va. Billy Clevinger Woodrum, 85 years of age, of the Poplar Creek Section, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at his home following an extended illness. Born Feb. 4, 1925, at Belle Point, W.Va., he was the son of the late Phil and Elster Clevinger Woodrum. He was a retired former partner of Lonzo Ratliff Cash Store and Ratliff Farm & Home Supply. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was rated A.S. - 52nd S/C on Destroyer U. S. S. O'Toole DE-527. Mr. Woodrum was a former deacon of the Poplar Creek Church of Christ serving as a Sunday school superintendent, and was a choir member. He was also a member of the John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion and of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Woodrum is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nell Duty Woodrum, Grundy; two daughters, Margaret Woodrum Ratliff and husband Tom, St. Louis, Mo., Lora Woodrum Daniels and husband Malcolm "Mike" Grundy; one son, David Lewis Woodrum Sr. and wife Carol, Marion, Va.; eight grandchildren, Katherine Irene Ferguson and husband Marc, Ralph Joseph Ratliff, William Thomas Ratliff, David Lewis Woodrum Jr. and wife Cathy, Sarah Lee Ann Daniels, Malcolm Lee Daniels Jr. and wife Summer, Lora Gale Duty, Tiny Beth Duty; four great- grandchildren, Rachel Ferguson, Thomas Ferguson, Danielle Sturgill and Elizabeth Sturgill; one beloved nephew, John Duty and wife Lesa; also, survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Bob Neal Woodrum. Funeral services for Billy Clevinger Woodrum will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Poplar Creek Church of Christ with evamgelists Raffael Farrow and Mike Rife officiating, with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va. Friends may call at the Poplar Creek Church of Christ on Monday evening, Nov. 15, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to: Poplar Creek Church of Christ, 4128 Poplar Creek Road, Grundy, VA 24614; or John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion, P.O. Box 602, Grundy, VA 24614; or Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, P.O. Box 44, Maxie, VA 24628.
