Bruce M. Stevens Bruce Stevens, age 87, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Dec. 8, 2009, with his precious wife, Clara, by his side along with other family members. Bruce was born on Nov. 1, 1922. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Widener Stevens; brothers, Gordon, Homer, John and James W. Stevens; and by sisters, Clara Bower, Ruby Davis, and Lucille Fentz; and his special dog "Angel". Bruce was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 41 years. He served his country during World War II during the European Theatre in the Battle of the Bulge and Berma receiving a Purple Heart for injuries received during those battles. He worked at Burlington Mills for 34 years. Bruce is survived by his wife of 58 years, Clara Deckard Stevens; one sister, Sally Stevens Haun; sister-in-law, Lorain Stewart; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, from the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tony Trunnell officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Garry Stewart, Walter Vance, Bill Stevens, Bill Davis, Harold Rhea and Greg Stevens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1509 Broad St., Bristol, TN 37620. The family would like to thank Wellmont Bristol Regional Hospital 2 West, Dr. Manciin, Dr. Naik, and Caris Hospice care for all their love and support. We are so saddened by the passing of Mr. Stevens. He was a kind man and a courageous veteran. He meant a great deal to us all at the VA Medical Center.
