Carl Edward Farris CHILHOWIE, Va. Carl Edward Farris, 72, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born May 24, 1938, in Washington County, Va., and was a son of the late Fred W. and Roxie Jane Scott Farris. He was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and received his master's degree from Radford University. He taught school for 32 years and retired from Holston High School. Carl was a Lion's Club member since '73 and had received several distinguished service awards. He also received an award in '86 from Washington County Chamber for outstanding service to the field of education. He was a member of Chilhowie United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Farris. Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Virginia Farris; a son, Michael Farris of Chilhowie; and daughter, Karen Farris of Meadowview, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. David St. Clair and Rev. Scott Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Westwood Memorial Gardens in Chilhowie. Pallbearers will be Gene Groseclose, Dwight Baker, Steve Eller, Kevin Gentry, Jim Farris, Bill Farris, Johnny Crabtree and Jim Groseclose. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Chilhowie Lion's Club, Bobby Cuddy and John Mason. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
