Carson Shumate

Carson Sisco Shumate DAMASCUS, Va. Carson Sisco Shumate, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va. He was born on Jan. 25, 1925, to the late Brack McCarroll Shumate and Flossie Mae Shumate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Elaine Shumate; a brother, Ward Shumate; a sister; Madge Parsons; and an infant brother. He was veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. Mr. Shumate was a member of the First Christian Church in Greencove, Va. He is survived by: his wife, Eva Danish Shumate; one son, Douglas Carson Shumate and wife Karen, Lake Charles, La.; two daughters, Vickie T. Goff and husband Daniel, Willimina, Ore., Patricia Mitchell and husband Robert, Keizer, Ore.; two brothers, Charles Shumate, Troutdale, Va., Robert Mack Shumate, Troutdale; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010, from the Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Rev. Harley Farmer, Rev. Jerry Fritz and Rev. Junior Goble officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Oregon at a later date.
