COEBURN, Va. – Charles Farrell Damron, 76, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was a retired employee of Clinchfield Coal Co., a life member of UMWA and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Damron was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, life member of Coeburn VFW Post No. 8652, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 45 and Big Stone Gap and American Legion Post 0243 in Norton. He was also a member of Coeburn Lodge No. 97 AF&AM, International Association Legions of Honor AAONMS, Shriners of North America AA ONM and Order of Eastern Star, Coeburn Chapter No. 153.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gay Hillman Damron; parents, Stuart and Macy Damron; and one brother.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Damron, Pound, and Charlie Damron, Grey's Lake. Ill.; daughters, Debra Blevins, Riner, Va., Ginger Adkins, Aurora, Mo., Freda Ketron, Coeburn, Sandra Hamilton, Big Stone Gap, and Billy Wayne Beverly, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers, Stuart "Bugs" Damron, Covington, Ga., Gary Damron, Doran, Va., Danny Damron, Roanoke, Va., and Don Damron, Clintwood; sisters, Jeri Baker, Orlando, Fla., May Phipps, Sanford, Fla., Fay Duncan, Orlando, Patsy Calhoun, Greenwood, S.C., Betty Branham, Tampa, Fla., and Sharon Mullins, Clintwood; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; Pappy's special grandson, Hunter Damron; and special friend, Rosie Perry.
Funeral services for Charles Farrell Damron will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Estes Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Adkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday after 6 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. by Coeburn Lodge No. 97 AF&AM. Burial will be Wednesday at Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens, with military graveside honors.
Estes Funeral Home, 114 High Ave., Coeburn, is in charge of arrangements.

Debbie and Danny, Your Dad was such a gentle person in every way. He certainly was a joyful member of our Eastern Star. Through our phone calls, he was always gracious and asked about our family despite his own battle. He was such a pleasure to know and will be deeply missed.
