Charmie Goodman Bear MARION, Va. Charmie Goodman Bear, age 91, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Mrs. Bear was a member of the Davis Memorial United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a former employee of the Smyth County School Board. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David F. Bear; her father and mother, Frank and Lizzie Goodman; a brother, Tom Goodman; and a son-in-law, Eddie Hanshew. Mrs. Bear is survived by four children, Betty B. Kirk and husband Sonny of Atkins, Va., David F. Jim Bear Jr. and wife Betty of Rural Retreat, Va., Debby B. Hanshew of Atkins, and Pat B. Huber and husband Peter of Pulaski, Va.; adopted daughter, Monica Hansen and husband Bill of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Leigh Hess and husband Eddie, Ann Nairn and husband Todd, Mary Beth Carter and husband Ronnie, Stephen Bear and wife Julie, Joanne Thiessen and husband Eric, James Bear and wife Amy, Jeff Hanshew and wife Tina, Matt Hanshew and wife Amanda; 14 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Mrs. Sadie Repass; and a special caregiver, Mrs. Mae Dillman. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend William Schoeneman Jr. and Dr. Brian Burch officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Marion, Va. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, c/o June K. Wheeler, 6284 Lee Highway, Atkins, VA 24311. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the Bear Family.

Dear Betty and Family, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's death. I have wonderful memories of her and also of your dad. She was a wonderful cook (as you are) and I loved sitting in her kitchen eating with both of them. She always made me feel so welcomed. She was a great example of a "good Christian lady". I know how close you were to her, and I know you all will miss her. But there can be no doubt where she will reside through eternity. What a great thing to know!
Charles sends his love to you also. We would love to see you. Give Sonny and the girls our love.

Charmie lived a wonderful Christain life valueing God, family and friends above all else.
As some one has said "the world will be a poorer place without her."
We visited her a few weeks ago and found her unchanged, as sweet and dear as ever .
It has been my priviledge to be her friend through the years.
My family joins me in sending the very deepest sympathy and consolation to each of the Bear family.
