Dewey Delbert "Duck" Smith RURAL RETREAT, Va. Dewey Delbert "Duck" Smith, age 69, went to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 3, 2010. He was born Dec. 1, 1940, in Pike County, Ky., and was preceded in death by his father Henry (Jack) Smith. He was retired from Pittson Coal Kentland Elkhorn Division where he was a local member of the UMWA. He was a loving husband, father, son and papaw to his six grandchildren " His pride and joy". In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Radford Smith and Franklin Smith. He was a member of Midway Memorial Chapel in Saltville, Va. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and rebuilding old cars. He leaves behind a host of family and friends to include his wife, Peggy Smith, Rural Retreat, Va.; his mother, Melster Smith, Bristol Virginia; his sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry and Sissy Smith, Mouthcard, Ky., Perry "Joe" Smith, Mouthcard, Ky.; his step-sons and special caregiver, Anthony "Tony" Payne, Marion, Va., Chris Davis, Ohio; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald Smith, Bristol Virginia, Tubby "James" Smith, Bristol Virginia, Bradley Smith and wife Christy, Bristol Virginia, Ricky Smith and wife Debbie, Bristol Virginia; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene Murphy, Bristol, Virginia, Magdaline Childress and husband Gary, Bristol Vriginia, Debra Stacy and husband Douglas, Bristol Virginia, Gay Johnson and husband David, Mouthcard, Ky; his grandchildren, Cody Allen Smith, Mouthcard, Michael Ryan Smith, Mouthcard, Cory Joseph Smith, Greenville, Tenn., Michelle Nicole Smith, Greenville, Tenn., Ryan Michael Goss, Abingdon, Va., Jakob Dylan Payne, Abingdon; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Phyllis Elswick, Marion, Va., Roger and Ruby Musser, Chilhowie, Va., Bruce &andRose Dye, Grundy, Va., Randall and Lisa Payne, Tazewell, Va., Jimmy and Hettie McGuire, Raysal, W.Va., Barbara Keen, a special friend, Troutdale, Va. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hospice Of Southwest Virginia, Ellis Home Oxygen and all of Mr. Smith's caregivers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010, from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Kenny Gilbert, June Carrico and Pastor Don Mutter officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
