Dolphus Lester LEBANON, Va. Dolphus Lester, 95, of Big Cedar Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. Born Aug. 4, 1914, a son of the late Joseph Lester and the late Mary Elizabeth Sargent Lester, and was the husband of the late Iona Ferguson Lester. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Bascom United Methodist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and he enjoyed his life of farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Boardwine; four brothers, Carl, Roscoe, Charles Henry and George Lester. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Lester Taylor and husband Jerry, Lebanon; four grandsons, who are the joy of his life, Matthew Taylor and wife Sherri, Joseph Taylor and wife Leora, Jesse Taylor and wife Heather, and Caleb Taylor; six great- grandchildren, Tara, Asa, Eli, Jonah, Lydia and Colin; one blessed sister, Leola Fogleman, Abingdon; also several nieces and nephews, all of whom are very special to him. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in the Bascom United Methodist Church with the Rev. Duane Musick, Mr. Randy Williams and Rev. Ken Meredith officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, in the Russell Memorial Cemetery. Those attending are requested to meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, prior to the service at the church. Combs Funeral Service, 291 Fincastle Road, Lebanon, VA 24266, (276) 889-4444 is serving the Lester family.
