Donald Stacy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 22 to Nov. 23, 2010.
Donald B. Stacy MARION, Va. Don B. Stacy passed away on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at home. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, Nov. 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Seaver-Brown Funeral Home in Marion. Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 2 pm. in the chapel at the funeral home. Rev. Neville Mozingo, Dr. John DiYorio, and Rev. Walter Monroe Landers will officiate. We will continue to celebrate his life at home after the service. Donnie, as the boy was known, was born to loving parents, John and Alta Stacy, in Salem, Va., Sept. 2, 1934, the third of four sons. It was a good town to grow up in and a good time to live. In the Spring of 1953, Don followed his two older brothers' examples by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where over half of his enlistment was spent in the Air Rescue Service in Japan. About a year after leaving the Air Force in 1957 and following a trip to California, he found employment in Bristol Tennessee's Raytheon plant, where he met the love of his life, Jean Aker. Not long after their 1958 marriage, Don enrolled in East Tennessee State, graduating in 1962. Then came over eight years in several locations within the Department of Justice, during which time, he became the proud father of two beautiful daughters. For the remainder of his government career, he and his family lived in Bowie, Md., while Don worked in the District of Columbia as a supervisory personnel management specialist for the U.S. Secret Service. After retirement, Don and Jean returned to Jean's roots, building a home in 1991 on land bordering Hungry Mother State Park, where Jean grew up in Marion, Va. Don enjoyed about 20 years of attendance at Park Presbyterian Chapel, a little country church across the road from the Stacy home. He could not have been more blessed then and throughout his life. Don was predeceased by his parents; and by his brother, Lawson; and Lawson's wife Maxine of Salem, Va. Survivors include his wife, Jean Aker Stacy of Marion; his daughter, Donna Jean and her husband, Christopher Calhoun and their sons, James and Michael of Sumerduck, Va., his daughter, Suzan and her husband, Tom Hamill and their children, Lea Jean and Aaron of Bealeton, Va. Also surviving are brothers and their wives, Bob and Connie Stacy of Roanoke, Va., and Ken and his wife Karla of El Paso, Texas; sister-in law, Laura Farrington of Marion; brother-in law, Ershel Bostic of Nashville, Tenn.; and some special cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Park Presbyterian Chapel, c/o Laura Farrington, 627 Hilltop St., Marion, VA 24354; or to a church or charitable institution of your choice.
