Richard de Montebello
September 10, 2010
Dear Peggy,
My name is Richard de Montebello. I presently reside in Winter Park, Florida. I am the best friend of the late Marvin Seiple and lived with him and Frankie and Glenda at their houe in Meadowview many years
ago. I have a lot of fond memories of Marvin and I visiting Don at his shop in Abingdon and hearing the funniest jokes in the world. I stopped by his shop almost 2 years ago to get an oil change. He was the same ole Don. He was a good man, great mechanic and friend. He will be missed. Abingdon without Marvin and Don won't be the same for me.
Take care and may God Bless!
Regards,
Richard de Montebello

I was saddened to hear of my cousin Gene's passing. He was and always will be one of my favorites. I remember as a child him and my brothers, Phillip and Wayne along with all of my uncles telling the most wonderful stories. As I was too young to have known or even remember these stories, it was through him and past family that I will cherish those 'memories' forever. He had a million dollar smile and an infectious laugh. His jokes were the best, he loved to make people laugh. I have no doubt he's telling jokes and laughing with all our loved ones who have gone before us. He was a proud American soldier who loved his country and his family. Thank you, Gene for your courage and service through our military and thank you for the memories. I will forever miss you....until we meet again.

We send our love, prayers and sympathy to Peggy, Phyllis and the family. Phyllis and I (Susan) met in junior high when the family lived in Va. Beach. Gene and Peggy were like second parents to me. He was a wonderful man with a big heart who gave fully to his family, friends, and country. He will truly be missed. We pray that through time and memories your pain will ease. With love,
Irvin Beach

Don was a particularly fine friend. We both came from eastern NC and at one time in our very young days we only lived a few miles apart. Later he as well as I served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Navy, but not together. As Marines we had hitchhiked and stopped at the same places to eat that Carolina BBQ. In his later years while living in Abingdon, VA, he would go back east about 400 miles to fish in the Chowan River where I learned to fish and swim. I found out years ago that we were distant relatives, When I was VFW Commander, Post 1994, for the years 1997-2001, he was my right-hand man as Quartermaster--he kept the post running smoothly-- and because of Don, our post received honors. Don was kind, thoughtful, an excellent shipmate and close comrade to me and the many others he knew. I joined the American Legion, Post 12 when he was Commander there and keeping the post afloat. His passing and the sound of Taps leaves a great void in this world-- but he has gone to the greatest ship and celestral station. Stand by Chief Beach, and Sgt. Beach we will request "Permission to come aboard" anytime. Shipmate Al Taylor
