Dorothy Skeen Bright WISE, Va. Dorothy Skeen Bright, 74, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, Va. She was of the Christian faith, was a former employee of Hunsaker Electric Co. in Coeburn, Va., was a former bookkeeper for JK&G Coal Co. and was head of housekeeping at Sturgill Funeral Homes Wise and Coeburn for over 18 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess "Sambo" McDonald Bright; parents, James Henry and Emily Parks Skeen; brothers, Jackie Skeen, Earnest Skeen, Eugene Skeen, Jimmy Skeen and Billy Skeen; and sisters, Violeta Skeen, June Dale Bell and Anna Lou Bell. Surviving are three daughters, Carlotta Steele and husband Gary of Wise, Jane Sturgill and husband Mark of Wise and Becky Maloney and husband Eddie of Roanoke, Va.; six grandchildren, Jessica McArthur, Alex McArthur, Natisha Sturgill, Mia Sturgill, Justin Maloney and Travis Maloney; two step-grandchildren, Brandon Steele and Brittany Steele; three sisters, Mary Culbertson of Wise, Judy King and husband David of Wise and Sue Stallard and husband Gary of Wise; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Dorothy Bright will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise with Pastor Robin Sturgill officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. till time of services at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Burial and graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, in the Wise Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Spirit of Life Fellowship Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1128 Wise, VA 24293.
