Dorothy Marie Jones Goodman ABINGDON, Va. Mrs. Dorothy Marie Jones Goodman, age 81, a well known resident and retired nurse in Washington County, Va., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Grace Healthcare in Abingdon. She was born the daughter of the late Thomas H. Jones Sr. and Hannah Estep Jones, and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wilton Goodman Sr.; a daughter, Judith Bernice Goodman; and two sisters, June and Mildred; and her brother, David. She retired from the practice of nursing in 1993 from Johnston Memorial Hospital to take care of her husband that passed away in 1995. She also served as director of nursing at Cedar Lawn Nursing Home. She was an active member of Palestine Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Sally M. Tompkins and husband James of Austin, Texas; three sons, Thomas Wilton Goodman Jr. of Abingdon, Michael G. Goodman and wife Sallie of Alpharetta, Ga., Malcolm D. "Mack" Goodman and wife Nancy of Maryland; two sisters, Vivian Anderson of Abingdon, and Virginia James of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Jim Jones of Damascus, Va., and Thomas Jones Jr. of Glade Spring, Va.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy M. Jones Goodman will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Steele officiating. Burial will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John Goodman, Jimmy Aker, Jimmy Anderson, Ralph Belcher Jr., Jim Tompkins, Sam Litton and Jerry Cullop. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Emory Robinette, Dr. Forrest Swan, Dr. Mel Heiman and Dr. Roger Glover. The family will receive friends at the Frost Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The family would like to thank the many employees of Grace Healthcare for the love and kindness that was shown to Dorothy and her family.
