Dowell Richardson DORAN, Va. Dowell Richardson, age 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 20, 1946, in Raven, Va., he was the son of the late Garnett and Beulah Webb Richardson. Dowell was a member of the Pine Creek Holiness Church. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Dowell was a U.S. Army Veteran. In addition to his parents, Dowell was preceded in death by one brother, Pete Richardson. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" McCray Richardson; one daughter, Beverly Richardson Christian and husband, Robbie of Kernersville, N.C.; two sons, James Pete Richardson and wife, Crystal of Pounding Mill, Va., and Benjamin Ryder Richardson and wife, Amanda of London, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Renae, Christa, Jorie, Carson, Collin, Zoey and Ranzy; one brother, Jack Richardson and wife, Marsha of Abingdon, Va.; two sisters, Kay Absher and husband, JR of Claypool Hill, Va. and Jackie Patton and husband, Barry of Cedar Bluff, Va. and several nieces and nephews. Dowell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a friend to all who knew him. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 10, 2012, at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with the Rev. Jim Richardson and Pastor Barry Absher officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill. Casey Short V.F.W. Post 9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Chase Richardson, John Absher, Brian Richardson, Tony Bush, Israel O'Quinn Morgan O'Quinn, Jason Counts, Justin Horton, Daniel Scalf, and Gary Woodward. Honorary pallbearers will be Coy Richardson, Jack Altizer, Sam Barnett, Curtis Whitaker, Jimmie Jackson, Gary Morrow, Charlie Simmons, and the men of Pine Creek Holiness Church Bible Class. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Forrest Swan, Preferred Home Health Services, and Legacy Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
