Edward Ford Smith SALTVILLE, Va. Edward Ford Smith, of 164 Saddleback Road, died Jan. 11, 2010, at James Quillen Veterans hospital in Johnson City, Tenn., after a brief illness. Mr. Smith was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Saltville. He was preceded in death by daughter, Deborah Smith; mother, Virginia Smith; father, Walter R. Smith of Saltville; and grandson, Keith Smith, of Hartwell, Ga. Mr. Smith was retired from Olin Chemical Corporation. After retiring he owned his own painting business. He is survived by his wife, Sue Taylor Smith of the home; sons, Ron E. Smith of Fort Blackmore, Va., Mark W. Smith of Lavonia, Ga., and Jeremy A. Smith and wife Laura of Saltville; daughters, Suzanne Smith Booher and husband Tony of Mosheim, Tenn., and Cheryl Smith Humbert and husband Ted of Lavonia, Ga. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are sisters, Margaret Vaught and husband Herbert of Glade Spring, Va., and Pat McNew of Glade Spring; brothers, Tom Smith and wife Sadie of Glade Spring, Miles "Bud" Smith and wife Betty of Saltville and Danny "Duby" Smith of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday Jan. 15, 2010, at Henderson Funeral Home with Ellis Necessary senior pastor of Christian Fellowship Church officiating. The family will receive Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be made at drhendersonfuneralhome.com D.R. Sue, We are so sorry to hear of Ed's death. He was a good fellow. I know you will be lonely without him, but at least you have a large family to help see you through and know that he loved and served the Lord. Barbara and Larry Foraker
