Edward E. "Redeye" Thomas MARION, Va. Edward E. "Redeye" Thomas, age 72, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was born in West Virginia to the late Charlie Thomas and Pearl Privett Thomas, and was preceded in death by a son, Edward E. "Dumpy" Thomas; and three brothers, Charlie Thomas Jr., Carl Thomas and Richard Thomas. Redeye was a deputy with the Smyth County Sheriffs Department in the early 1970's and retired from Sears with over 29 years of employment. He had worked at Bradley's Funeral Home for over 11 years. He was a member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Department. Redeye will always be remembered as a proud Democrat and an avid fisherman. Survivors include: loving wife, Ruth Quillen Thomas; daughter-in-law, Theresa Thomas, Chilhowie; sisters, Leota Clyburn, Marion, Lettie Gilbert, Atkins, Hazel Jones, Marion, Rachel Brooks, Chilhowie; brothers, George Thomas, Atkins, Oscar Thomas, Atkins Blaine Thomas, Marion; step-grandson, Kevin Powers and wife Karen; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Rev. Tim Parker officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grosses Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
